TAIGH

WHAT IS MY ROLE? Support Worker

ABOUT ME:

Hi, I’m Taigh! I’m 20, I’m studying film, and I’m a bit of a nerd. I love anime, manga and video games, and I’m always up for a trip somewhere new or a day outdoors. I’d describe myself as a big friendly giant with a soft spot for a good story.

I’ve got a funny connection to Voyager Care. Tamzin supported me when I was younger, and it wasn’t until after I’d been hired that we put two and two together. Now we get to work together!

SKILLS:

  • I’m reliable and follow through on what I say I’ll do

  • I put the people I support first and take the time to listen to what matters to them

  • I’m patient and understanding, and I’m happy to go at each person’s pace

  • I manage my time well and stay organised so I can be ready for the day

HOBBIES AND INTERESTS:

  • Watching anime and reading manga

  • Playing video games

  • Travelling and exploring new places

  • Spending time outdoors

  • Studying film and exploring how stories are told on screen

WHY DID I BECOME A SUPPORT WORKER?

My sister and I both grew up with disabilities, and I know firsthand how much of a difference the right support can make. I also had a lot of experiences with support workers where I didn’t feel heard or understood. That made me want to do better for the people I support by listening to what matters to them and following through on what I say I’ll do.

I wasn’t sure about becoming a support worker at first. I knew it was a big responsibility, and I wanted to take it seriously. What made me sure was knowing I could help people work towards goals they’d chosen for themselves. I love seeing someone build confidence, succeed at something that matters to them and feel proud of what they’ve achieved.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT MY JOB:

I love seeing people smile and helping them feel welcome and part of the group. One of my favourite moments is seeing someone achieve a goal they’ve been working towards and getting to celebrate it with them.

I also love meeting new people and seeing what each day brings. No two days are the same, and that’s one of the things I enjoy most about the job.
